This article is for customers who pay their bill using a Flex provided debit card. Not sure which experience you have? How does my bill get paid with Flex and what do I need to do?
Looking for a different experience?
If you pay your bill using the Flex-provided debit card, you'll use the card to submit your bill payment directly to your service provider each billing cycle. Once that payment goes through, we automatically charge your 1st payment to Flex.
Your 2nd payment is then automatically collected on the date you selected during sign-up.
Below is how each payment works.
Making your 1st payment
Your 1st payment to Flex is automatically charged once you've submitted your bill payment to your service provider using the Flex-provided debit card — you don't need to do anything extra to trigger it.
If your 1st payment fails, there are no automatic retries. You'll need to go through the payment flow again — try updating your card on file if the issue persists. Learn more about what to do if your 1st payment fails.
Making your 2nd payment
Your 2nd payment is the remaining balance owed to Flex for the bill that was processed using your Flex provided debit card.
When you add a bill to Flex, you select a date for your 2nd payment within 30 days of your bill’s due date.
Once your bill payment has settled, and your 1st payment has been successfully completed, Flex will automatically collect your 2nd payment on the date you selected.
Making your 2nd payment early
You can make your 2nd payment before the scheduled date in the Flex app.
To make your payment early:
- On the bill details screen, Go to the Bills tab and find your 2nd payment.
- Tap Make payment.
- Review the payment amount and details.
- Tap Pay to confirm.
- When your payment is successfully processed, you’ll see a confirmation screen.
Before you make your 2nd payment early, here's what to know:
- You'll be paying off the remainder of your bill balance owed to Flex.
- Manually submitting your 2nd payment ahead of the scheduled date will not impact your scheduled payment settings.
- If the early payment fails, your original scheduled payment will still go through as planned.
Why are my payment amounts different than expected?
If the amount your service provider charges to the Flex card is different from the estimate you entered in the Flex app, your 1st and 2nd payment amounts may update to reflect the actual bill total.
If the difference is small: You'll see a notification in the Flex app letting you know your 1st and 2nd payment amounts have been adjusted slightly to reflect your actual bill total. No action is needed from you.
If your bill is significantly higher than expected: You'll see a prompt in the Flex app to review your bill amount.
- If you review and accept the new amount, you'll see your updated payment schedule and your bill payment will go through.
- If you don't review and accept it, your bill payment will be canceled. You'll need to update your estimated bill amount in the app and resubmit your payment to try again.
