If you pay your bill using your Flex provided debit card, you'll initiate your bill payment each month by completing your 1st payment to Flex first. Once that's processed, a virtual debit card is unlocked in the app for you to use to pay your service provider.
Your 2nd payment is then automatically collected on the date you selected during sign-up.
Below is how each payment works.
Making your 1st payment
Your 1st payment to Flex is how you kick off the bill payment process each billing cycle. Make sure to complete this step on or before your bill's due date to ensure your bill is paid in full on time.
To make your 1st payment:
- Open the Flex app and tap Pay Now.
- Review your pre-filled estimated bill amount. Update it if your bill amount has changed.
- Review your payment schedule on the Confirm Payment Schedule screen.
- Tap Confirm to submit your 1st payment.
Once your 1st payment is successfully processed, your Flex card will be unlocked and ready to use in the app.
If your 1st payment fails, there are no automatic retries. You'll need to go through the payment flow again — try updating your card on file if the issue persists. Learn more about what to do if your 1st payment fails.
Making your 2nd payment
Your 2nd payment is the remaining balance owed to Flex after your bill has been paid.
When you sign up for Flex, you choose a date for your 2nd payment within 30 days of your bill's due date. Once your bill payment has been successfully submitted using your Flex card, Flex will automatically collect your 2nd payment on the date you selected.
Making your 2nd payment early
If you'd like to make your 2nd payment before the scheduled date, follow these steps in the Flex app:
- Go to the Home tab and find your 2nd payment.
- Tap Pay Now.
- Review the payment amount and details.
- Tap Pay to confirm.
- When your payment is successfully processed, you'll see a confirmation screen.
Before you make your 2nd payment early, here's what to know:
- You'll be paying off the remainder of your bill balance owed to Flex.
- Manually submitting your 2nd payment ahead of the scheduled date will not impact your scheduled payment settings.
- If the early payment fails, your original scheduled payment will still go through as planned.
Why are my payment amounts different than expected?
If the amount your service provider charges to your Flex card is different from the estimate you entered in the Flex app, your 1st and 2nd payment amounts may update to reflect the actual bill total. Here's what to expect in each case:
If your payments increased: As long as the actual charge was within your card's spending limit, your payment went through successfully. Your 2nd payment will automatically update to reflect the difference — no action needed from you. You'll see a notification in the app and may receive an email letting you know your payment amounts have been updated.
If your payments decreased: Your payment went through, and Flex will automatically issue a partial refund for the difference on your 1st payment. Your 2nd payment will adjust accordingly. Learn more about Refunds and bill adjustments.
