What is autopay?
Bill autopay is a setting in the Flex app that lets you choose how your bill payment process is kicked off each month—either automatically by Flex or manually by you.
Whether your bill autopay is ON or OFF, an initial payment is required before your full bill payment to your service provider can be submitted through Flex.
What happens when bill autopay is on?
If autopay is turned on, your 1st payment will automatically charge on your bill due date. Once the 1st payment is successful, your full bill payment will be submitted.
Note: If your payment fails, you’ll have 24 hours to make the payment, either through automatic retries or by resubmitting it manually in the Flex app. During that time, Flex will attempt to charge your payment method up to 4 times. If you’re unable to complete a payment within this window, you’ll need to pay your bill directly with your service provider and try using Flex again for your next bill.
Autopay is a good option if you want a smoother, more automatic experience. In most cases, when autopay is on, the entire bill payment process is handled through Flex for you.
If you use autopay, we recommend turning off Overdraft Protection with your bank. Some banks approve Flex’s charge even if you don’t have enough money yet, which could lead to overdraft or NSF fees.
What happens when bill autopay is off?
If autopay is off, you’ll need to make that payment manually in the Flex app.
After you make the 1st payment, your full bill payment will be submitted to your service provider through Flex.
Many customers turn off autopay when they:
- Want to control exactly when their 1st payment is charged
- Want to avoid being charged before money is available
- Plan to skip using Flex for the month
- Want to avoid overdraft or NSF fees
What stays the same either way
No matter if autopay is on or off:
- Your bill is submitted through Flex after your 1st payment is made.
- Your Flex Bills credit line stays open.
- Any balance owed to Flex will still be charged automatically according to the scheduled date.

Timing tips
- Turning autopay ON: Update autopay status to ON at least 24 hours before your bill is due so Flex knows to pay your bill on your behalf
- Turning autopay OFF: Update autopay status to OFF at least 24 hours before your bill is due to ensure it is not paid automatically
