What is Rent Autopay
Rent Autopay is a setting in the Flex app available to all active customers who live at integrated properties. This setting lets you choose how your 1st payment (the payment required to be made to Flex before rent can be submitted) is charged each month, whether automatically or manually.

This 1st payment is required before Flex can submit your rent to your property.
What Happens When Rent Autopay Is On?
If Rent Autopay is turned on, Flex will automatically charge your 1st monthly payment when your rent bill is posted.
We start trying to charge your payment on the last day of the month. For example, for June rent, we might start charging as early as May 31. Note: We’ll try to charge you up to six times per rent cycle. If all six attempts fail, we’ll notify you to make the payment manually in the app.
Autopay is a good option if you want a smoother, more automatic experience. In most cases, when Rent Autopay is on, Flex handles the entire rent process for you.
If you use Rent Autopay, we recommend turning off Overdraft Protection with your bank. Some banks approve Flex’s charge even if you don’t have enough money yet, which could lead to overdraft or NSF fees.
What happens When Rent Autopay Is Off?
If Rent Autopay is off, Flex won’t charge your 1st payment automatically. Instead, you’ll need to make that payment manually in the app.
After you make the 1st payment, Flex will still automatically submit your rent to your property like usual.
Many customers turn off autopay when they:
- Want to control exactly when their 1st payment is charged
- Want to avoid being charged before money is available
- Plan to skip using Flex for the month
- Want to avoid overdraft or NSF fees

What Stays the Same Either Way
No matter if Rent Autopay is on or off:
- Flex automatically submits your rent after your 1st payment is made.
- Your Flex Credit Line stays open.
- The $14.99 monthly membership fee still applies.
- Any balance owed to Flex will still be charged according to the scheduled date.
How to Turn Rent Autopay On or Off
You can update your Rent Autopay setting anytime in the Flex app:
- Open the Flex app
- Tap the Settings tab
- Tap Rent and Payments
- Toggle Rent Autopay ON or OFF
- Tap Turn On or Turn Off in the pop-up message to confirm
After you make a change, you’ll see it reflected in the app and get a confirmation email from us too.
Timing Tips
- To use Rent Autopay for the upcoming month, turn it ON by 5pm ET on the 4th
- To avoid automatic charges for next month, turn it OFF at least 2 days before the end of the month
