Applying to use Flex for your bills takes just a few minutes. This article explains where to apply, what you’ll need, and what to expect during the process.
Where to apply
You can apply for Flex in a few different ways, depending on your service provider:
- During checkout on your service provider’s website when paying your bill
- Through a link sent to you by your service provider
- Through a link sent to you directly by Flex
If you’re eligible, you’ll see the option to split your bill with Flex.
Note: If approved, you’ll use the Flex app to manage your payments and account settings.
What you’ll need before you start
To make the process smooth, have these ready:
- A U.S. phone number
- Your full name and email address
- Your physical address
- Your Social Security Number (SSN) and Date of Birth (DOB)
- A debit or credit card to use as your payment method
- Your bill amount and due date
What to expect during sign-up
Step 1: Create your account & verify your info
You’ll start by creating your Flex account using your phone number, name, and email. We’ll also ask you to confirm your home address to make sure it matches your service provider. If any of the pre-filled details don’t look right, you can update them before continuing.
Step 2: Confirm your bill
Your experience depends on whether your service provider is directly connected to Flex.
If your provider is directly connected:
- If a bill has already been posted, you’ll confirm the balance and due date.
- If a bill has not been posted yet, you’ll enter an estimated amount and due date so we can set up your payment schedule.
If your provider is not directly connected:
You’ll manually enter your bill amount and due date.
If the amount varies each month, you can enter your best estimate.
Step 3: Check your eligibility
Flex runs a few simple checks to see if you’re eligible, including a soft credit check. This does not affect your credit score.
Step 4: Set up payments
Next, you’ll:
- Choose a date for your 2nd payment (we recommend about 15 days after your bill’s due date)
- Add a payment method
If your service provider is directly connected to Flex, you will choose whether Flex should automatically split and pay your bill for you each month.
If your service provider is not directly connected to Flex, you will always kick off bill payment by submitting with your Flex-funded payment method- so there will be no autopay option.
Step 5: Finalize schedule
Review your payment schedule and details. If everything looks good, agree to the terms to complete sign-up.
Once you're done, you'll get a confirmation page and a prompt to download the Flex app. If your bill is paid via a Flex bank account, Flex will provide you with a dedicated bank account to use — you'll find the account details in the app after verifying your phone number.
