Signing up for Flex’s Rent product only takes a few minutes. This article covers where you can sign up, what to expect during the sign-up process, and how to know when your account is ready.
Where to sign up
You can sign up for Rent in one of three ways:
- In the Flex app – Download the app from the App Store or Google Play and follow the steps to get started.
- On your browser – Go to getflex.com and follow the prompts to apply.
- Through your property’s rent portal – Some partnered properties offer Flex sign-up directly through their rent portal. If your property supports this, you’ll see the option when you log in.
Note: Once your account is created, you’ll always use the Flex app to log in and manage everything. Website login isn’t supported.
What you’ll need before you start
To make the process smooth, have these ready:
- A U.S. phone number
- Your full name and email address
- The address of the rental property where you live
- Your Social Security Number (SSN)
- Your total monthly rent amount (including recurring fees like utilities)
- A debit or credit card to use as your payment method
What to expect during sign-up
Step 1: Verify phone & enter basic info
- Enter your U.S. phone number and confirm it with a texted code.
- Share your name and email to create your account.
Step 2: Search for your property
The app will guide you to find your property. What happens next depends on your results:
✅ You find your exact property and unit
Your property is integrated with Flex Rent. We’re directly connected to your rent system, and rent is submitted on your behalf.
🏷️ You don’t see your property
Click the “I don’t see my property” link. Then enter your address and select how you currently pay rent. Based on your answer:
- Through a property website or portal: Flex will give you a bank account or debit card to use when you submit your rent each month. Learn more about how Flex Rent works with rent portals.
- Directly to a specific person or property: (For example: Zelle, Venmo, check, or cash.) We’ll help you invite your landlord to Flex Rent. Once they join, rent will be sent directly to them through Flex. Learn more about how Rent works if you pay your landlord directly.
No matter which path you take, once onboarded, you can still split your rent into two payments each month.
Step 3: Enter your rent amount
Tell us your total monthly rent (include recurring fees like utilities).
Step 4: Complete a soft credit check
Flex will run a soft credit check (this won’t affect your score). Based on results, you’ll either be:
- Approved
- Denied
- Asked to verify your income
Step 5: Choose your 2nd payment date
Select when your second rent payment will be due each month.
Step 6: Add a payment method
Link the debit or credit card you’ll use for monthly payments.
Step 7: Review and sign
Review your payment schedule. If everything looks good, tick the box to sign the agreement.
✅ You’re In! - Once finished, you’ll land on the Flex app home screen. That means your account is active and ready to go.
When will Flex start paying my rent?
Flex uses a monthly cutoff to decide if we’ll start with this month’s rent or next:
| Sign up timing | Flex starts paying |
| Before 5pm ET on the 4th | That month’s rent |
| After 5pm ET on the 4th | Next month’s rent |
Examples:
- Sign up at 4:30pm ET on May 4 → Flex Rent starts for May rent.
- Sign up at 6:00pm ET on May 4 → Flex Rent starts with June rent.
If you miss the deadline, you can still sign up—Flex will just start with the next rent cycle.
If you’re asked to verify your income
Sometimes we need more info to finish your approval. If prompted, follow the steps in the app.
