Getting Started with Flex
Signing up for Flexible Rent only takes a few minutes. This article covers what you need, what to expect during the sign-up process, and how to know when your account is ready.
Where to Sign Up
You can sign up for Flexible Rent in one of two ways:
- On your browser – Head to getflex.com and follow the prompts to start your application.
- In the Flex app – Download the app from the App Store or Google Play and follow the steps to get set up.
⚠️ Once your account is created, you’ll need to use the Flex app to log in and manage everything. Logging in through the website isn’t available.
What You’ll Need Before You Start
To help the sign-up process go smoothly, make sure you have the basics ready:
- A U.S. phone number
- Your name and email address
- Your rental property address
- Your Social Security Number (SSN)
- Your monthly rent amount
- A debit card or credit card to connect as your payment method.
What to Expect During Sign-Up
Most customers will follow the steps below when signing up for Flex. While the experience can vary slightly based on your property or account type, here’s a general overview of what to expect:
1. Verify Your Phone Number – You’ll start by entering your U.S. phone number. We’ll send you a one-time code by text—just enter that code to continue.
2. Add Your Name and Email – Next, you’ll fill in your first name, last name, and email address to create your account.
3. Find Your Property – The app will try to match your property automatically based on your phone number. If it doesn’t find it, you can search manually or select “My property isn’t listed.”
4. Enter Your Rent Amount – Let us know how much your total monthly rent is—this should include any regular fees (like utilities) that Flex should pay.
5. Complete a Soft Credit Check – Flex will run a soft credit check—don’t worry, it won’t affect your score. Based on the result, you’ll either be approved, denied, or asked to verify your income.
6. Choose Your 2nd Payment Date – You’ll select when you want your second rent payment to be due each month.
7. Add a Payment Method – Link a debit or credit card so Flex can collect your monthly payments.
8. Review and Sign – You’ll see a summary of your plan. If everything looks good, just accept the offer and sign your agreement.
You’re In!
Once you're done, you’ll land on the Flex app’s home screen. That means your account is active and ready to go.
When Will Flex Start Paying My Rent?
When you sign up determines if Flex will pay your rent for the current month or start with next month’s rent instead. We use a monthly cutoff to figure that out.
If You Sign Up… | Flex Will Start Paying… |
Before 5pm ET on the 4th | This month’s rent |
After 5pm ET on the 4th | Next month’s rent |
Example:
- Sign up at 4:30pm ET on May 4 → Flex will start for May rent
- Sign up at 6:00pm ET on May 4 → Flex will begin with June rent
If you miss the deadline, don’t worry—you can still complete sign-up and Flex will be ready to go for your next rent cycle.
If You’re Asked to Verify Income
Sometimes we need more info to finish the approval process. If you're asked to verify income, follow the steps in the app. Related Article: How to Verify Income During Sign-Up
