Flex Funds is a feature in the Flex app that helps you set aside money for future Flex payments. It makes budgeting easier by letting you save money ahead of time, so you’re prepared when a Flex payment is due.
Availability note: Flex Funds is available for some Flex accounts. Not all customers have access to this feature.
How Flex Funds works
- Add money to your Flex Funds balance using a debit card. Credit cards aren’t supported.
- When your Flex payment is due, your Flex Funds balance is used first.
- If there isn’t enough in your balance, the remaining amount is charged to your default payment method.
- You can withdraw your Flex Funds at any time if your plans change.
Example: If your Flex payment is $1,000 and you have $500 in Flex Funds, Flex will use the $500 first and charge the remaining $500 to your default payment method.
Flex does not hold your money. Flex’s bank partners Lead Bank or Column N.A., Member FDIC, manage all funds and banking services.
Accessing the Flex Funds feature
If Flex Funds is available on your account, you can find it in the Flex app by going to Settings → Payment methods
From there, you can add or withdraw funds from your Flex Funds balance.
How to add funds
You can add funds to your Flex Funds balance up to 7 times every 30 days.
- From Home or Settings, open Payment methods settings
- Select Add funds
- Enter the amount and select Continue
- Your Flex Funds balance will update
If there’s an issue adding funds, you’ll see an in-app message explaining why the attempt didn’t go through.
Maximum balance limit
Your Flex Funds balance can go up to 1.2x your monthly rent amount.
Example: If your monthly rent is $1,000, your Flex Funds balance can go up to $1,200.
Once your balance reaches $1,200, you won’t be able to add more money until your balance goes down.
Once you reach this limit:
- You won’t be able to add more money until your balance decreases
- You may see an error message or a declined transaction when trying to add funds
This doesn’t mean there’s a problem with your account. It just means you’ve reached the maximum amount allowed in Flex Funds right now.
How to withdraw funds
You can withdraw Flex Funds in the app up to 5 times every 30 days.
- Go to Settings → Payment methods
- Select Withdraw
- Enter the amount and select Continue
- You’ll see a confirmation if the withdrawal is successful.
Your Flex Funds balance will update right away, but it typically takes up to 3–5 business days for funds to be returned to the same debit card used to add the funds.
If a withdrawal fails, you’ll see an in-app message explaining why.
Reached the withdrawal limit? If you need to withdraw more funds after hitting the limit, contact Support in the app (Settings → chat icon). Our team can review your account and help.
Automatic withdrawal after 90 days
If you add Flex Funds to your balance but don’t use the Flex Funds feature for 90 days, your funds will be automatically withdrawn and returned to the debit card you originally used to add them.
